Who I Am Matters!

As BR006 soar though the sky and slowly emerge with the stars, I know it is time to say goodbye to my childhood home, Taipei Taiwan. Every time I visit my motherland, my heart will always be filled with the nostalgic feeling. Growing up in Taipei was a very different experience in comparison to the my teenage life in the States. Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan, which is a city that had been fairly modernize. Everything on this small island was extremely close with each other, yet the history and culture in this tiny country is just as interesting as any other. As a nation build on the idea of rebel against communism in China, Taiwanese often argue that we are a free nation. Due to the outburst of the Japanese army prior to World War II, many of the Taiwanese culture is actually greatly influence by China and Japan.
I plan on going to where everyone is trying to go, retirement.
My plan to get there is to taking life one step at a time, however, maybe stop to smell the flower and enjoy the view before I reach my destination.
I am everything my parents don't want me to be, but at the same time I accomplished whatever they wanted out of me. My parents and I are all Trojan, the USC bloodline continues in my family. I am a free spirited soul, which is nothing like my parents.
I have definitely developed my own expectation of myself. Although my parents insisted on the idea of college, but every since I could remember I wanted to be a Trojan just like my parents. For example, I had an offer to go to NYU upon my high school graduation, then I received the opportunity to go to USC Paris Trojan Transfer Program, which I need to maintain a 3.3 GPA in order to transfer back to USC. With minimal conflicts I decided to go to Paris and attempt to join the Trojan family once more. Luckily it all worked out the way it suppose to.
Without a doubt in my mind, the source of my inspiration and role model has to be Koby Bryant. I've watched that man carry the weight of the entire city on his back and accomplished the impossible. On or off the court, Kobe always give his best. I still remember the moment when he walked up the free throw line and finished the two free throws, after he tore his achilles' heel. His determination and strength touched all Lakers fan.
I believe I have a special connection with the wild Wolves. Every since I was a child, I always need my friends around me. I always enjoy others company. Not to say how amazing the wolves fur feels!
I had a nasty experience with strawberries in my childhood. I remember one summer my parents took my sister and I to go strawberry picking in a farm. My sister and I were having so much fun running through the filed, as city kids, we don't get such privileges to connect with nature. Then the unfortunate happened, I sat down by this little stream to wash my berries. I had one then another. I thought I was the smart one by washing the strawberries before I ate them. Then the farmer came running, and told me that those are fertilizer water... That certainly ruined Strawberries for me.
Hey Maren,
ReplyDeleteWow, that's awesome that you studied in Paris for a year! I got the same invitation through the USC Paris TTP. However, I decided to spend a semester at Santa Monica College, and then transfer to USC instead. To this day, I still wonder what my life would have been like if I had decided to study in Paris for the year prior to transferring to USC. Did you enjoy Paris? I would love to hear about your abroad experience sometime.
