Marketing Internship
Do you have lots of creative ideas and no where to put them into good use? Then marketing is the perfect division for you. This is a golden opportunity for college students to expand their knowledge in the marketing field. I’ll briefly describe the world of marketing division.
A Marketing Executives aim to maximize profits through developing sales strategies that match customer requirements and by promoting products, services or ideas. As a marketing Intern, you will be shadowing a team of marketers and provide as much assistance as they needed. We are looking for a driven and ambitious college students that want to start their young career in the exciting social media marketing field. Although you will spend most of the time on social media content, your main job is still supporting the team.
Here are some duties of a marketing intern that help to sum up the duties of a marketing intern:
- Creativity
- Research & Analysis
- Advance Computer Skills & Social Media Knowledge
I’ll describe these using examples of a regular day of a marketing intern.
Creativity
The marketing division really appreciate the beauty of creativity.
The importance of creativity is shown in these ways:
- Brainstorming session
- Create new & interesting way to attract customers
- Generates new perspective to promote the company
Here’s an example on the importance of creativity. My team and I were brainstorming for some new ways to engage new customers. I was personally given an assignment to come up with at least 10 new ideas to promote our new product. (i would describe this new product)
I thought about my list from the beginning of my shift till the next day. I scratched the bottom of my brain and could only come up with 6 different realistic ideas. When I reported to the team, they were actually very supportive and gave me constructive criticism to improve these thoughts. Turns out, everyone on the team were just glad to hear from a different perspectives on the approach of the project. Not only did the team respected my contribution, they also applied the same principles I generated on the project we were currently working on. It felt great to be acknowledge and help out the team.
Research & Analysis
The team depends on you to provide helpful data and adequate analysis.
We usually focus on these three things:
- Analysis on marketing and sales datas
- Analysis on competitor marketing and sales materials
- Research new potential customer segment
This is the backbone of the marketing department. These datas are the inspirations and confirmation of all marketing strategy. So part of your job is to collect these datas from social media platforms and sales report, then compare it with the marketing strategies the company decided to use. This is how we know if any strategy was efficient or a failure. Not only do you need to understand the data from our company, you will also need to be familiar with the analysis of our competitors. This research will help you develop a better understanding of the industry, and inspire you to create the next big thing!
Advance Computer Skills & Social Media Knowledge
You need these skills to navigate through the complex life of marketing… and this job.
These three expertise are the most crucial:
- Excel skill
- Extensive knowledge on business social media practice and platform
- Monitor social media network
The ability to fluently operate a computer is a necessary element to anyone working in the marketing business. Our company uses excel to process all of the data, so it will be a good tool to have in your pocket. For example, I reorganized the data set using one of the formula I remembered from a particular lesson in my excel lab in college. The whole team was really impress by this more efficient way of organization. You will also be in charge to monitor the social media network, so you will have to be adequate with all of the social media platform.
